Musings from the Café at the End of the Universe

  Canadian people and Russian people are not so different. Canadian oligarchs and Russian oligarchs are not so different from each other either. The difference between the working class and the oligarch class in each nation is far greater than any difference between the working classes of each nation. In both countries the oligarchs extract their luxury from our impoverishment. We need to remember that the enemy of both peoples are not those of the other country - it’s the oligarchs in our own countries we need to defeat. Canadians and Russians were friends during World War 2 and the workers put everything on the line to stop the Nazi empire from consuming decency and spitting back the poison of hatred. For many years good Russian and Canadian people worked together to prevent nuclear war and develop technology. We have been made enemies only by the twisted perspectives that are pushed by corporate-owned mass media.

"North American business interests are upset that the technology developed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has surpassed theirs." Why has this happened? I suggest the political trajectory shift in the late 1980’s was the beginning of it. At that point we were being told that private industry can “do it better”, and funding was stripped from our government agencies that were developing technology for the citizens of our countries.  After that, technology was only developed for profit. Technology that was most profitable for corporations was foisted on us and sold to us. The selling was largely due to changing our recognition that the best technology is made when it serves the public interest, not short-term corporate profits. Now these corporations and their mass media arms are marching us toward a nuclear conflict with the PRC that would put the final nail in the coffin of technology development that serves us rather than greed, and very likely human existence. ...
