Where’s our Good Tech (And how do we get it back?)
"North American business interests are upset that the technology developed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has surpassed theirs."
Why has this happened? I suggest the political trajectory shift in the late 1980’s was the beginning of it. At that point we were being told that private industry can “do it better”, and funding was stripped from our government agencies that were developing technology for the citizens of our countries.
After that, technology was only developed for profit. Technology that was most profitable for corporations was foisted on us and sold to us. The selling was largely due to changing our recognition that the best technology is made when it serves the public interest, not short-term corporate profits.
Now these corporations and their mass media arms are marching us toward a nuclear conflict with the PRC that would put the final nail in the coffin of technology development that serves us rather than greed, and very likely human existence.
This is the time to stand up against outrage against fraudulent portrayal of violation of international law by foreign countries. We need to speak up about the impoverishment of our cultures and civilizations by profit machines. There’s no profit for us in war, nor in being the unwilling tools of those who want to divide us from each other and our hopes of a better future.
